Under 12s lift Challenge Shield
A busy day at Holker Street for the 2017 Barrow AFC Performance Centre tournament saw the Under 12s lift the Challenge Shield. The team qualified for the semi finals of the Holker Street Cup, finishing 4th after the group round. The side were unfortunately knocked into the Challenge Sheield final following a well fought 1-0 defeat by Furness Rovers. The boys faced Holker Old Boys Blacks, who they had beaten 2-0 in the group phase. The final was a much closer affair with the two teams tied at 0-0 after the inital 10 minutes. This meant that Holker Streets famous “Elimination” was needed. The Under 12s prevailed with captain Ryan Frazer-Knight scoring the winning goal after the goalkeepers had been removed from the field of play.
Earlier in the day the Under 9s also made the semi final of the Challenge Shield but were unfortunately defeated 3-1, also during elimination, by a well matched Kendal United side.
Barrow Celtic Juniors were also represented at Holker Street by teams in the Under 8 and Under 10 age groups.
